The comparison with Formula E
The definition given by Max Verstappen during pre-season testing of “Formula E on steroids” could have suggested that the start of the 2026 World Championship would be characterized by endless discussions about the revolution brought by the new hybrid power units, which compared to the past have an almost equal split between thermal and electric components. The explosion of phenomena such as super-clipping, lift and coast in qualifying, the problems of many teams in the starting phases, and the frightening accident at Suzuka involving Ollie Bearman have, however, accelerated and made the debate on current F1 technical rules even more central.
Buemi’s analysis
A rather pragmatic observation has come precisely from the Formula E paddock from Sébastien Buemi, currently competing with the Envision Racing team and still very much linked to F1 and the Red Bull group in particular, for which he continued to work as a simulator driver for many years even after leaving his role as a regular Toro Rosso driver in the Circus. Buemi was interviewed by the Spanish site AS specifically regarding the new course taken by F1.

The analysis made by the Swiss driver was quite pragmatic: “The new regulations? Some people like them. If you are one of the Mercedes drivers, you love them; if you are one of the others, no. But we have to wait a bit, it’s hard to draw conclusions with so few races – observed the multiple WEC world champion – I understand the critics, but it’s still too early to draw conclusions. The races are interesting, not everything is perfect yet, but we have to wait and see how things evolve. We in Formula E are looking forward to seeing Gen4, because it will be a good step forward for the championship, but we don’t want people to be disappointed with F1. I hope both championships are successful,” he concluded.
