Antonelli in Ferrari, is it possible?
For too many years, Italy has not had a driver capable of fighting at the top of Formula 1. The last Italian to win a GP was Giancarlo Fisichella – a story from 20 years ago – while to find the last compatriot world champion, one must go back to the F1 of the pioneers, with Alberto Ascari’s 1953 title. Now, however, we have returned to hope, because Kimi Antonelli is growing and has already brought the tricolor back to the podium in his debut season.

If the test indications were confirmed, the Bolognese would drive a very competitive Mercedes, perhaps the favorite to win the World Championship. The mettle of the 19-year-old will therefore be seen, as he will face even more pressure than that – already enormous – felt in having to replace Lewis Hamilton, who went to Ferrari. And Ferrari itself is watching Antonelli’s growth with great interest.
Ferrari’s words
“It is not a forbidden dream, there have already been Italian drivers at Ferrari. The last one who tried was a dear friend, Michele Alboreto, and he didn’t succeed. Antonelli has already shown that he deserves top cars: with a bit of experience, he will certainly become a great driver“, these are the words of Vice President Piero Ferrari in an interview with Corriere dello Sport by Fulvio Solms.

In short, for Ferrari, Antonelli is a long-term goal. Also because the Scuderia already has a promising young driver at home for its future, Oliver Bearman, and a driver like Charles Leclerc, who has several seasons at high levels ahead of him. The Vice President praised him like this: “He is a very fast driver and the comparisons with his teammates have also shown it. He extracts performance from any car at any time. For me, he is a certainty, we only lack the satisfaction of seeing him as world champion because he deserves it, and also for his great attachment to Ferrari“.
