Among the new rules introduced by the future Euro 7 standard, a new homologation protocol called GTR21 emerges, dedicated to defining the combined power of plug-in hybrid systems. Translated: the sum of the contribution of combustion engines and that of electric motors. In practice, it is not a “technical” change of the vehicles, but a different method of measuring and classifying the overall power, which influences the declared values and those reported in the homologation documents. Peugeot changes the names of PHEV models
Peugeot is now applying this protocol. For some plug-in hybrid models currently in the Lion brand’s range, this involves reworking the homologated power. It is important to emphasize that the vehicles concerned do not receive technical modifications: consequently, performance, consumption, and emissions remain unchanged, while only the official power parameters indicated at the homologation level change.
No technical modifications
In detail, the overall homologated power of the 3008 and 5008 plug-in hybrid models changes to 225 hp (166 kW), with the new commercial names 3008 PLUG-IN HYBRID 225 AUTO and 5008 PLUG-IN HYBRID 225 AUTO. The 408 plug-in hybrid is instead homologated at 240 hp (177 kW), with the new name 408 PLUG-IN HYBRID 240 AUTO. The same update of the overall power data is already adopted on the new 308 Plug-in Hybrid 195 hp automatic. Finally, the new standard does not result in an increase in the ownership tax, because the calculation remains based only on the combustion engine power, which is unchanged.
