Pernat: “In 2027 Honda for the World Championship. Market? There are those who moved for money and those for the bike”

Total revolution

2027 will be a historic turning point year for MotoGP: the switch from 1000cc to 850cc bikes, the elimination of the lowering devices, the reduction in size of aerodynamic wings, and the change of tire supplier, all at once, could potentially overturn the order of forces on the field. This revolution, combined with the fact that almost the entire MotoGP grid has contracts expiring at the end of the current season, has generated a very explosive and peculiar rider market, with many hugely significant team changes that have not yet been officially announced due to the stalemate in negotiations between Liberty Media and the manufacturers.

In an interview with FormulaPassion.it the historic manager Carlo Pernat tried to ‘read’ the transfers already defined so far and those still uncertain: “In the market you either look for a good bike or you look for the money – Pernat, who knows these negotiations well, stated – Martin went for the money, Bagnaia looked for a good bike and gave up some money because he could have gone to Yamaha before Martin, but he said no. Also Alex Marquez and Di Giannantonio [both destined for KTM] moved for the money“.

Watch out for Honda

Among the seats still to be assigned for 2027 there are many ‘customer’ teams like Trackhouse, Pramac, Gresini and VR46: “In Pramac I expect a young rider like Gonzalez or Guevara to move up to MotoGP. They will put one of them alongside Toprak, in my opinion. Bulega in VR46? Not necessarily. Marini could also go, although there would be room for him, if desired, even in Trackhouse. At Honda HRC with Brivio’s arrival Mir could stay alongside Quartararo, since they have already worked well together at Suzuki. Bastianini, on the other hand, could agree to return to Gresini“.

Obviously, the riders’ situations are all blind bets at the moment, because no one can know in advance which bikes will be the most competitive next year. However, Pernat has some ideas about this too: “You can’t say which will be the best bike, it’s too difficult. I expect a strong Honda – the Genoese manager hypothesized to FormulaPassion.it because they are investing a lot of money. So I imagine they will be in the title fight. Instead, I believe those who won’t compete [for the title] will be both KTM and Yamaha“.
