The WRC is getting ready to speak Spanish
The WRC calendar will see the Croatia Rally as the next scheduled event, but there is already great attention on the Rally of the Canary Islands, which will take place from April 23 to 26. In particular, there are two aspects that are increasing the anticipation for this event, which entered the world championship last year and has already reached an agreement with the WRC to remain until 2029 with the possibility of extension.

The first is related to the return of the home idol Dani Sordo, who will face all the special stages behind the wheel of the Hyundai i20N together with his co-driver Candido Carrera. After rumors that he would be the third driver for the Korean team for this round, the definitive confirmation came with the actual presence of his name included in the official list of participants, something that had not happened since the 2024 Greece Rally.
The interventions after the storm
The rally will start with a spectacular first stage scheduled at the Gran Canaria Stadium in Las Palmas, but for Friday some changes to the initially announced routes have already been announced. A choice made inevitable due to the severe storms that hit the islands last month, which caused floods and landslides: “The damage caused in numerous areas of Gran Canaria by the recent DANA storm that hit the archipelago forced the organizing committee to react quickly and competently to review the itinerary initially planned for Friday’s stage,” reads a statement from the organizers. “Thanks to the collaboration of the Gran Canaria Island Council and all the municipalities, the full first day of the 50th Rally Islas Canarias – Rally of Spain still includes a loop of three special stages, which presents several changes.”

The second stage (Valleseco – Artenara 1) has been shortened by 2 km and postponed compared to the initial schedule, followed by Tejeda – San Mateo 1, which became the third stage. Changes also for Morgan – La Aldea 2, which will become the last stage on Friday and will take place in the opposite direction. No changes, however, for Saturday and Sunday.
