Official, Quartararo in Honda in 2027: two-year agreement

A Devil for the Rebirth

Fabio Quartararo is a new Honda rider. This has been repeated since the end of January, when the rumor was first revealed by several Spanish media during the first day of pre-season testing, but now the official confirmation has finally arrived from the Japanese manufacturer. The Frenchman, 2021 MotoGP world champion, thus makes the big jump from Yamaha to Honda, taking the opposite path to that taken by Valentino Rossi in 2004. After experiencing four very difficult seasons with the Iwata factory, Quartararo has finally decided to change scenery but did so by accepting Honda’s courtship, which in turn is just now trying to emerge from a post-Covid technical crisis that was very heavy and led to the departure of Marc Marquez at the end of the 2023 season and then shortly after to the loss of the historic sponsor Repsol. The advent of the new 2027 technical regulations, with 850cc bikes and Pirelli tires, represents the perfect opportunity for a new beginning and the cornerstone of the rebirth will have to be Quartararo himself.

Unlike what was done with the announcement of David Alonso, for which there is a generic mention of a “multi-year contract”, in Quartararo’s case a much more precise indication has arrived: the Diablo has in fact committed to Honda for the 2027-2028 biennium.

“Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) is pleased to announce the signing of Fabio Quartararo for the 2027 and 2028 MotoGP World Championship seasons.
Quartararo will race for the official Honda HRC team at the start of the 850cc era of MotoGP, beginning in 2027. The twenty-seven-year-old arrived in the premier class in 2019 after a series of record results in the FIM CEV Moto3 International Championship and four competitive seasons in the Moto3 and Moto2 World Championships. As a rookie in the premier class, Quartararo immediately made a mark, securing pole position already in his fourth race and totaling six poles and seven podiums in 2019. In 2021 he won the MotoGP world title, finishing second the following year. To date, the French rider has accumulated 11 wins, 32 podiums, and 21 pole positions in the premier class“.
