The new CEO of Mini, Jean-Philippe Parain, has clarified the strategic direction of the brand. According to him, the company does not aim to further expand its range of models, but to grow through a richer offer of options and customization possibilities. The Frenchman, who previously held high-level executive roles within the BMW Group, took over the leadership of the British brand at the end of last year and, in the current context, reiterated that Mini already has the widest range ever, with five models in total.

Mini will not further expand the range
Parain linked this approach to recent results and the path of renewal that Mini has pursued in recent years. Some examples? New variants of the electric Cooper sedan and the Countryman SUV, updates to the three- and five-door petrol Cooper sedans, up to the new electric crossover Aceman. Within this strategy, the main growth lever is especially the high-performance John Cooper Works line, where according to Parain there are still opportunities, and where Mini aims to consolidate its strength (last year the John Cooper Works range reached a sales record).

Focus on the John Cooper Works line
Furthermore, the company is working to strengthen its positioning also through configurator choices. After a period in which some options had been simplified, Parain explained that the approach did not fully meet customers’ desires. Today the brand would have reopened the possibility to select more specific options, allowing buyers to individualize and better distinguish their Mini, with an approach that, according to the CEO, remains consistent with profitability and the typical identity of the brand.
