Marquez’s recovery
The right arm injury suffered by Marc Marquez in 2020 in Jerez seemed to definitively end the Spaniard’s successes in the MotoGP World Championship, at least concerning victories valid for the possible conquest of other world titles. Instead, against general expectations, Marquez managed to gradually recover not only to return to his levels, but also to win the world championship with Ducati in 2025, a season in which he also dominated.

A déjà vu
A path reminiscent of another champion like Mick Doohan, who in 1992 even risked leg amputation. However, once back in the fight for victory, the Australian managed to enter the MotoGP World Championship’s hall of fame five consecutive times, from 1994 to 1998. Doohan himself best understood the difficulties suffered by Marquez and the latter’s exceptional recovery, considering the Spaniard “on another level compared to the others“.
“He changed bikes, he changed everything, but he maintained the same motivation and returned to being as dominant as before – he added in his interview with Marca – in his second year with Ducati (his first with the official team) he was simply on another level compared to the others. I also had an injury many years ago, but it was different from his. There was time to recover, to renew contracts. Only Marc knows what he went through and how difficult that journey was.”

The ‘secret’ to returning to the top
For the Australian, in conclusion, Marquez’s great return therefore lies in his great inner strength: “Having that mental strength to never lose sight of the goal he had set for himself – he added, praising the characteristics of the reigning champion – starting from a position of dominance before the accident, going through all of this and competing in a season where, in reality, he wasn’t fighting for the World Championship because he knew it was out of his reach, yet remaining focused on the long term. This means returning to dominance and demonstrating how strong he was and how strong he still is. It shows Marc’s great character and what helped him overcome the injury. He made the right decisions, and this is another sign that he is a true champion. This adds even more value to how he managed everything and, secondly, to what he achieved and his return. I believe that, even if you are not a motorsport enthusiast, what he has done is legendary“.
