Almost twenty years after what was his first and only Formula 1 world title, Jenson Button returned to the wheel of the Brawn BGP 001 at Goodwood, where the English driver will once again get behind the wheel of the same single-seater at the famous British festival scheduled from July 9 to 12. The 46-year-old, who also won the Phil Hill Cup at the 83rd Members’ Meeting with his Jaguar E-Type, was the protagonist of an exhibition last weekend with the car that gave him the greatest satisfaction of his career, which ended at the end of 2025 after his WEC experience.

2009: a special year

Today an Aston Martin ambassador, in 2009 the Englishman surprisingly became world champion in a season characterized not only by the introduction of new technical regulations, but also by the debut of Brawn GP, a team taken over by former Ferrari Technical Director Ross Brawn after Honda’s exit. With six victories, Button finished at the top of the standings ahead of Sebastian Vettel and Rubens Barrichello, another former Ferrari driver who moved to Brawn GP. The results, powered by the Mercedes engine, also allowed the English team to win the Constructors’ title, becoming the only case in F1 history of a team winning both the Constructors’ and Drivers’ titles in a single year of participation. In 2010, in fact, the team merged into the current Mercedes.

Not just Button

Williams, as already announced, will take to the track at Goodwood with another world champion of Damon Hill’s caliber, who for the occasion will restart the engine of his FW18 thirty years after his world victory in 1996.
