Honda Trio
Overall positive performance from Honda at the Italian GP, with the Japanese team finishing in the points zone with all its riders except Cal Crutchlow, called in to replace the injured Johann Zarco but stopped by physical problems. Specifically, the group from 11th to 13th place was entirely occupied by the Japanese manufacturer’s riders, with Diogo Moreira followed by Joan Mir and Luca Marini.

Struggling with the tires
Starting from 15th on the grid, the Spaniard stayed in the pack of riders on the edge of the points zone until the final fight with Moreira and Marini, finishing in 12th place: “We had a difficult weekend, but we can take some positives at the end of the day – he said – I stayed calm at the start and tried to find my rhythm, avoiding excessive risks. Step by step I managed to recover ground and get closer to the top ten, which I knew was our maximum given the general feelings of the weekend. In this way I reached the group fighting for the top ten and started to fight with them, but I didn’t have enough tire to get the most out of this battle. Diogo and I had a nice battle and I’m happy to have brought the bike home.”

Never give up
The home rider Luca Marini had a very positive performance. 13th at the finish, #10 was immediately the protagonist of a comeback from 19th on the grid, only to be sent back to the back of the group by Fernandez. During the race Marini did not give up, returning to the points zone behind Mir: “A fantastic start. The first corners of this race allowed me to gain many positions and I really felt comfortable on the bike. Around the fourth lap I was sent into the gravel by Fernandez and had to start all over again, pushing hard to catch Mir and Moreira. When I caught them the right front tire was gone and, as much as I tried, I couldn’t do more. It’s a shame because before the incident I was in a good position, but that’s racing and the positive side is that we managed to recover twice. We’ll try again in Hungary.”
