Historic successes
In the history of the MotoGP World Championship, the two manufacturers with the most wins in the premier class speak Japanese: while Honda holds the absolute record with the victory of as many as 21 world titles, Yamaha follows with 18 wins (tied with MV Agusta), for a total of 39 world championships. However, the moment both manufacturers are experiencing is anything but positive, with a results crisis persisting since 2023.

At the bottom of the standings
Since that year, despite additional technical concessions (Honda moved from category D to C for this season), both manufacturers have always occupied the last two positions in the standings. While Yamaha has not reached the top of the world since 2021 with Fabio Quartararo, with the Iwata team meanwhile engaged in developing the new V4 project, Honda’s last world victory dates back to 2019 with Marc Marquez. Yet, believing in the return of both entities to the highest levels is a former rider who, precisely on a Yamaha, won three MotoGP world titles: Jorge Lorenzo.
“Sometimes you have to sacrifice short-term results to start a new project (V4), it’s inevitable – he told the media – Yamaha needed to change as soon as possible to gain experience and have a brighter future. So they chose this direction, but I believe Honda and Yamaha always come back to the forefront. They are very powerful, have a long history and a considerable budget. So, sooner or later they will return. We saw last season that Honda is getting stronger.”
