Leclerc: “In the last 3 races, the exact opposite of what we expected happened”

From second to fourth

Already yesterday Charles Leclerc did not seem so confident ahead of the Hungarian GP, despite starting from the second grid slot.
The Monegasque started on used Softs from the dirty side of the track, not having optimal grip and thus finding himself already in fifth place after the first corner.
From there, Leclerc’s race was rather anonymous and concluded in fourth place due to Hamilton’s five-second penalty.

Leclerc to Canal Plus: “Very difficult to be consistent with this car”

“When I performed the start procedure, the moment I released the throttle, there was much less grip than we expected. I had a lot of wheelspin, then at Turn 1 I found myself a bit squeezed between Lewis and Max. At that point I had to slow down again, after which we were in fifth position and it was extremely difficult to recover.
What’s hard to understand is that it doesn’t just depend on us. There’s a lot of information to analyze. The run on softs wasn’t bad, the first run on hards was quite good, but in the second run on hards I had no feeling with the car, it was extremely complicated to understand what was wrong with the tires. And then the softs at the end were still quite good, but then again we had a staggered strategy compared to the others, so it’s complicated to make a comparison, but the feeling was good.

It’s very difficult to find consistency with this car. The really strange thing is that the exact opposite of what we expected happened in the last three races.
In the two races where we didn’t expect to do well, everything went as planned: we finished first and second; in the race where we still expected a good result, we finished fourth and fifth, but this somewhat summarizes the general behavior of these cars. I think it’s difficult for everyone to understand, and we need to be better than the others.
For my part, I will continue to work to try and understand what causes this irregularity in this car, why the same sets of tires don’t perform consistently. They seem very different, it’s very strange
