KIA will announce a new small electric hatchback in Europe next year, designed to compete directly with models like the Renault 5, the Peugeot e-208 and the Opel Corsa Electric. Described as a “B-hatch”, the car is expected to be a sister model to the EV2 with a similar wheelbase and dimensions but with a lower stance. The model, designed specifically for the European market and possibly named EV1, could be positioned as an electric alternative to the Picanto and become the Korean manufacturer’s most affordable offering.

KIA prepares the launch of the EV1
According to Autocar, production could be localized in Europe, with the Slovakian plant for the EV2 among the most likely candidates. From a technical standpoint, KIA itself states that the EV1 will be the first “software-defined vehicle” in the B-segment, centrally integrating all major electronic systems into a single unit to enable over-the-air updates and new functions throughout the car’s life. The chosen platform will be the 400 V E-GMP already used by the EV2, a model with which it will share 42.2 kWh and 61 kWh battery options. This should translate into realistic ranges in the order of 320 km for the more affordable versions and up to 480 km for the Long Range variant.

A flagship SUV also expected
The EV1 is part of a broader plan with which KIA intends to expand its electric range to 14 global models by 2030 compared to the current 11, including two “passenger models”, nine SUVs and three commercial vehicles. Future innovations also include a flagship SUV ad alto volume expected for 2029, designed to encourage upgrades from Sportage HEV/PHEV customers and EV5 buyers toward high-end trims. The company’s goal is to increase EV sales to one million units annually by 2030 compared to the 250.000 planned for 2025.
