Jaguar’s new electric GT, set to usher in a new era for the brand, will be called Type 01. This was confirmed by the company ahead of the official presentation scheduled by the end of the year, following a development path that began with the concept. The “over 1000 HP” sports sedan, previously known as Type 00, a name linked to the previous concept, or X900 for the internal code, represents the first concrete step by Jaguar towards production dedicated to fully electric luxury cars.

The new Jaguar Type 01
The Type 01 inherits from Jaguar’s past a symbolic language and a promise of driving style. According to the British manufacturer, the prefix “Type” recalls continuity with the “legendary predecessors” in the brand’s sporting history, from the C-Type victorious at Le Mans in 1951, through the D-Type, the E-Type, and the F-Type, models celebrated for the balance between engaging driving and performance, combined with refinement and composure. In this sense, the 0 identifies the zero-emission propulsion system, while the 1 signals the status of Jaguar’s first of a new phase, as if to underline the beginning of a completely renewed chapter.
The first EV of a new era
Meanwhile, the new Type 01 is already making headlines with camouflaged prototypes: according to Autocar, recent track testing in Sweden precedes the public track display, with vehicles ready to appear before this weekend’s Formula E race in Monaco. Market arrival is expected in the first half of next year, thus ending a pause of about 18 months in the introduction of new Jaguar models, which began after the F-Pace SUV was discontinued in December. Looking ahead, Jaguar had indicated that a large limousine and an electric SUV could also arrive, potentially called Type 02 and Type 03.
