Is Max the only one complaining?
In recent weeks there is no doubt that the drivers have toned down their criticisms of the 2026 regulations, especially after being heard regarding the changes implemented from Miami onwards. The drivers were assured that from 2027 the split between thermal and electric will settle at 60:40 and so in recent weeks they have shown confidence in the path of change initiated by the Federation.
The latest news about engine manufacturers and teams wanting to postpone the plan scheduled for next year to 2028 has once again ‘fired up’ Max Verstappen, who has again hinted at the possibility of retirement.
But looking closely at the drivers’ interviews, they are not at all comfortable with this energy management system, even after the Miami changes.

Hamilton: “Strange feeling”
In the press conference Lewis Hamilton denied finding natural what is required of drivers by the 2026 cars: “It is certainly not natural what we do, it continues to be a strange feeling. Power is reduced, Straight Mode is opened, power runs out halfway down the straight and the engine revs start to drop. It doesn’t seem like what motorsport should be. The engine should scream at full throttle until the end of the straight and push and push again. That’s how it was in the days of the V8 or V10. In the end these cars have a fundamentally better design, so we can battle, get close and follow each other closely and that’s the best part. The power part is less exciting.”
