Just as in the last Monte Carlo Rally, where Toyota had dominated with three drivers in the top three positions, the Japanese manufacturer even managed to improve in the Rally Sweden with a poker; while in the Principality Oliver Solberg had led the standings, highly anticipated this week by his home crowd, this time the world runner-up Elfyn Evans prevailed in Scandinavia, and with this success he also moves to the top of the provisional world championship standings.

Super Sunday Report
The final day of the Swedish rally began without any significant changes in the general classification compared to Saturday, thanks to Evans’ fastest time in the first stage which allowed the Welshman to slightly extend his lead over Katsuta, 2nd at the start of Super Sunday. Third place for Solberg, once again engaged in the difficult mission of reaching the podium in his home rally ahead of Pajari, who was 23 seconds behind at the end of SS16. This goal became even more complex in the penultimate stage due to the 2nd fastest time by the Finnish driver, behind Katsuta and ahead of Evans, who was fully managing his lead over the Japanese driver. The latter situation was decidedly different for the Super Sunday standings, with Evans also leading here but by only 7 tenths over the Japanese. In the Power Stage of Umeå 2, run over a distance of 10 km and above all decisive for the outcome of the Scandinavian rally, Pajari made no mistakes in defending 3rd place, thus achieving his second podium in the WRC despite finishing tenth (ahead of Lorenzo Bertelli) in the final stage. In the latter, Thierry Neuville gave his best, being faster than Evans by only a tenth, thus finishing ahead of everyone in the Super Sunday as well. For the Welshman, this is his third career victory in Rally Sweden, as well as his second consecutive one.

Next event
From the snow of the Swedish rally and the frost of Northern Europe, the world championship will move to sub-Saharan Africa in a month’s time. The third round of the championship will take place on the gravel tracks of the Safari Rally Kenya, scheduled from 12 to 15 March.
