Negotiations underway for renewal
As we have emphasized Fabio Di Giannantonio is currently at the center of the rider market. The Italian rider has obtained a direct contract with Ducati for the 2025-2026 biennium and has received support as an official rider within the VR46 team.
Looking ahead to 2027 Ducati has already placed Fermin Aldeguer in VR46, who in turn has a direct contract with the Borgo Panigale factory. At the moment the VR46 team has one official bike entrusted to Di Giannantonio and the goal is to have two for 2027 even if at least at the start of the season, given that the regulations will be new, there will be no differences between factory bikes and customer bikes.
Fabio Di Giannantonio, questioned about his future, was very clear to the microphones of Sky and his point of view is widely shareable: “I am an official rider and I want to continue to be one, if it is no longer so it is like taking a step back“. Ducati would like to confirm Di Giannantonio in VR46 and VR46 obviously has as a priority the retention of the Italian rider, but Di Giannantonio will remain in the Tavullia team only if he sees his direct agreement with the Borgo Panigale factory extended. Alex Marquez, for example, has an official bike in this 2026 like Di Giannantonio, but does not have a direct contract with Ducati.
Alex Marquez is heading to KTM, a factory that is also courting Di Giannantonio himself who aims for a contract – and a salary – as an official rider even at the cost of giving up Ducati’s competitiveness guarantee.
