This unexpected F1 break was marked by the official announcement of Gianpiero Lambiase‘s move from Red Bull to McLaren in 2028 as Chief Racing Officer. Lambiase’s departure from the Milton Keynes team is the latest in a long series that began with Rob Marshall’s move to McLaren, Adrian Newey to Aston Martin, Jonathan Wheatley to Audi, and many other moves (not to mention, of course, the dismissal of team principal Christian Horner) that have significantly weakened Red Bull.

“We are facing a real brain drain – said Karun Chandhok during the Sky Sports UK podcast dedicated to F1 – Laurent Mekies and the ownership in Austria must curb this trend and reverse it by trying instead to bring new personnel to Red Bull, maybe from Mercedes because Mercedes is currently the reference team in F1. Good people attract good people just as those who are comfortable elsewhere may then be reached by former colleagues. Red Bull must think about how to become attractive again.”
