Martin’s accident in the tests
After the tense Sunday in Barcelona, marked by the serious accidents involving Alex Marquez and Johann Zarco, even Monday morning’s tests did not go smoothly, with a bad accident involving Jorge Martin that kept everyone on edge.
The Spanish Aprilia rider, in his sixth crash in four days, was assisted in the runoff area and taken by ambulance first to the medical center and then to the hospital.
Fortunately, the pain in the elbow, hand, and fibula did not turn into fractures and the Spanish rider himself appeared in a photo revealing that he is basically fine, considering the heavy impact from the accident.
Paolo Bonora’s account: Aprilia telemetry data
In an interview with MotoGP, Paolo Bonora – Aprilia Race Manager – recounted what happened to Martin at Turn 7: “After the accident, we immediately went to the medical center here at the circuit and there were no visible fractures. So we decided together with the doctor to go to the Dexeus Hospital in Barcelona and it seems that no fractures were found there either. Everything seems fine, but we have to wait because the accident was very violent and at high speed“.
Bonora also revealed what the box saw from the telemetry data: “From the data analyzed this morning, it seems he probably entered the corner with too much speed and braked too abruptly. For this reason, the accident was very violent and we have to wait until Tuesday. We are waiting for the medical reports, we have full confidence in our rider and his strength, and we can’t wait to have him back with us as soon as possible.”
