The new i7 will be unveiled worldwide on April 22 at the Beijing Auto Show, marking another step for the company towards high-end electrification. At the heart of the project is the new sixth-generation BMW eDrive technology, which debuts on the German brand’s flagship electric model through 4695 cylindrical lithium-ion cells. Compared to the prismatic cells of the previous generation, these new cells offer a 20% higher energy density, a potential key to improving both available capacity and overall performance. The i7’s high-voltage battery integrates this Gen6 technology with a consolidated Gen5 modular design.

New battery for the electric i7
The new battery, produced with advanced technologies at Rimac Technology in Croatia and supplied ready for assembly at the Dingolfing plant, the only site in the world dedicated to the 7 Series, aims to offer i7 customers significantly reduced charging times, thanks to increased charging capacity and improved overall efficiency. “We are rapidly implementing Neue Klasse technologies across our entire model range, including, of course, our all-electric luxury sedan”, stated Thomas Engelhardt, Senior VP Development High-Voltage Storage and Charging at the BMW Group.
