The adventure of the new BMW i3 is coming to life. This was announced by the German manufacturer itself: a few days ago the second model of the Neue Klasse entered the series production phase at the Munich plant. An important step, in light of the fact that from next year the Bavarian plant of the BMW Group will exclusively build fully electric vehicles. And that’s not all, because the company also announced that it has recorded strong demand after the early opening of orders.

BMW starts production of the i3
We recall that the BMW i3 has been orderable since mid-June, and that the high demand has led to a rapid increase in the plant’s production capacity. The Munich plant has undergone a major transformation in the last four years: from the construction of a new body shop to a new assembly area with logistics spaces, there are many innovations that have impacted the plant. Peter Weber, head of the Munich plant, announced that with the start of BMW i3 production the company is reducing production costs at the plant by a further 10%.
Rapid increase in capacity
How? “A forward-looking planning, close collaboration with development departments and suppliers, modern production technologies integrated into new facilities, optimized production processes, targeted automation and digitalization, the new architecture of the Neue Klasse”, explains BMW. The German manufacturer has already announced that other models of the Neue Klasse will follow shortly, ensuring the future competitiveness of the plant for the coming decades.
