Adrian Newey and Aston Martin
After the end of his twenty-year relationship with Red Bull, Adrian Newey considered the list of teams interested in him, then deciding in mid-2024 to accept the convincing offer from Aston Martin.
Lawrence Stroll’s long courtship succeeded also thanks to the proposal of Newey’s entry into the share capital of the Formula 1 team.

The revelation from PlanetF1
The publication PlanetF1 published in recent hours an investigation into Aston Martin’s share capital, from which it emerged that Adrian Newey holds 4.7% of the team’s shares.
The English engineer has 17,287 class D shares, which give him voting rights, but for example not the right to appoint members of the board of directors.
Based on the current market rate, Newey’s stake is worth 159.8 million dollars (considering the team’s valuation of 3.4 billion dollars).
However, Adrian Newey cannot freely exit the capital (and thus monetize) before March 2030, unless Lawrence Stroll sells his stake in the team.

If the technical director wanted to exit before that date, he would lose his stake, which would revert to Aston Martin.
PlanetF1 also highlighted how the Saudi Arabian sovereign wealth fund holds 6.8% of the shares, but also the presence in the capital – with smaller stakes – of current and former employees such as Andy Cowell, Enrico Cardile, Andrew Green, and Tom McCullough.
