Aston Martin has announced that it is in talks with potential financiers, in response to a press report indicating it was in contact with several credit institutions, including HPS Investment Partners, controlled by BlackRock. According to the English company, as part of its periodic assessments of the capital structure and strategic options, the goal remains to ensure adequate liquidity to support its industrial strategy.
Aston Martin negotiates with potential financiers
The statement from Aston Martin reported by Reuters comes after a Bloomberg article, which reported the existence of a possible structured financing through a “drop-down” operation. According to this reconstruction, the funds would be guaranteed by corporate assets transferred beyond the reach of existing creditors, thus redesigning the protection and priority of positions in case of corporate or financial events. On this aspect as well, HPS did not provide comments: according to reports, it did not respond to a Reuters request and had already refused to comment to Bloomberg.
Difficult context
The negotiations take place in a context of difficulty that the company has been facing for some time. Aston Martin has in fact indicated losses and pressures related to declining sales, worsened by US tariffs and weak demand in China. In April, moreover, the company recorded a further quarterly loss and, in the same period, had turned to a consortium led by the main shareholder Lawrence Stroll to obtain financing of 50 million pounds, with the aim of bringing liquidity at the end of the quarter to 230 million pounds.
