Disappointments and accusations
Another blow for the two-time world champion, stuck at the back of the pack precisely due to the contact with Sainz: “Today we needed a chaotic race to try to change our situation, but in the end there wasn’t much to fight for. We still tried several solutions and continue to learn about the updated package. Unfortunately, Sainz hit me, forcing us to return to the pits to replace the front wing. A penalty was given: it is the decision made by the FIA and I believe it was correct. It was great to see the support from the fans today; I really appreciated the atmosphere.”

Stroll: another retirement
There is no peace even for Lance Stroll, forced to retire for the third consecutive time. The Canadian, after parking the car in the escape road in 14th place due to a brake problem, was the ‘cause’ of the Virtual Safety Car that then overturned the standings: “I sustained quite a bit of damage in the early laps. We tried to continue, but then I started having brake problems: the pedal travel had lengthened significantly and I ended up locking the wheels. I tried to turn the car into the escape road, but I didn’t have enough power; unfortunately, my race ended there. It was a difficult weekend in Madrid.”
