Clio and Symbioz: Renault's LPG range is renewed

Renault is among the car manufacturers convinced that LPG can still play a fundamental role in the future of the car. And for this reason, it is relaunching its offer with the new Clio and Symbioz ECO-G. After all, the numbers show that this fuel performs very well in Europe: in 2025, sales of LPG Clio increased by 35% compared to the previous year, while those of Captur rose by 28%. Compared to petrol, Renault has estimated a 9% advantage in terms of CO2 emissions. For this reason, it has decided to expand its offer.

Renault bets on LPG

The core of the new LPG engine is a 1.2-liter three-cylinder turbo engine, capable of delivering 120 hp and 200 Nm of torque. In combination, of course, there is a tank dedicated to LPG: overall, the declared combined range on the Symbioz reaches 1,500 km, while on the Clio it is 1,450 kilometers. A different choice regarding the transmission: 6-speed manual transmission for the SUV, EDC automatic for the compact.

Starting with the Symbioz, the LPG tank has a capacity of 50 liters and is alongside the 48-liter petrol tank. In terms of dimensions, the car always measures 1.57 meters in height, 1.79 in width, and 4.41 in length, for a total weight under 1,500 kg. Despite the presence of the LPG tank, the trunk volume remains absolutely respectable: 610 liters at base, 1,574 liters with the rear seats folded down. The Symbioz range is thus completed: the LPG version is alongside the other full hybrid E-Tech versions with 160 hp and mild-hybrid EDC with 140 hp.

Coming to the Clio, the LPG tank capacity does not change compared to the Symbioz (but increases compared to the previous version, where it was 32 liters and now is 50), while the petrol tank changes, in this case to 39 liters. Like the Symbioz, the Clio does not change its appearance. The dimensions remain 1.451 meters in height, 1.768 in width, and 4.116 meters in length, with a wheelbase of 2.591 meters. The trunk capacity in this case is 260 liters, about a hundred less than the petrol version, and increases to 1,045 liters with the rear seats folded down.

The advantages on the road

On the road, the behavior of the two cars in this version is almost identical to that of their respective other versions. Of course, we are talking about models competing in different segments, which means their natural habitats are different. The Clio may be more agile and efficient in urban and city contexts, while the Symbioz perfectly adapts to long distances and extra-urban roads. In both cases, the switch from petrol to LPG (and vice versa) is done via a button located at the bottom left relative to the driver, and it is noticeable with a small “jerk” especially when switching from petrol to LPG.

Prices for Italy

On the Italian market, there is plenty of room for maneuver for these two models. Just think that last year a total of 140,667 LPG vehicles were sold in our country. And of these, 72.7% were models from the Renault Group, therefore from the Renault and especially Dacia brands. From 2020 to today, Renault has delivered about 150,000 LPG units in Italy, a fuel chosen by 1 in 3 customers for the Clio and 1 in 2 for the Captur. As for the Clio, orders for the new model have already reached 20,000, 3,500 of which concern the ECO-G 120 hp EDC version. Since April, the LPG mix for the Clio has reached 40%. The Symbioz, on the other hand, has 1,000 orders out of 15,000 for LPG, with a mix that has been 30% since March. Final focus on prices: LPG Clio starts from 20,900 euros, while LPG Symbioz from 25,900 euros.
