Not only closed wings, power units will also be affected
In Monaco everything really changes with this new generation of cars that provides for a 50% split in power between the electric component and the thermal component. If in the first five races of the season the problem was that the single-seaters were ‘hungry’ for power which was missing at the end of the straights, in Monaco the situation reverses and the FIA is forced to even ‘castrate’ the electric component of the power units for safety reasons.

According to the publication The-race.com, in fact, the FIA will not limit itself to not providing areas for the use of active aerodynamics. To further reduce the risk of accidents, the FIA has imposed for Monaco the use of a different engine mode setting that limits the maximum power delivered on the straights. The maximum power delivered by the MGU-K will start to gradually decrease from 350 kW starting at 200 km/h. This value is much lower than the standard setting which starts to limit the maximum power delivered starting from 290 km/h.
The reason is simple: in Monaco, with few points to discharge the battery, the latter will always be full and therefore it is feared that the cars will prove too fast and therefore dangerous because they are always able to deliver electric power. Surely the drivers will not have to perform the ‘Lift and Coast’.
