Xiaomi announced that its electric vehicle deliveries were over 20.000 in February, down from over 39.000 in January, according to a post on its official Weibo account. The Chinese company, which launched the SU7 in 2024 and has already exceeded 381.000 units delivered through February, stated it has prepared for mass production of the next-generation sedan. The fluctuations in deliveries reflect both the normalization of demand and the repercussions of recently adopted safety measures and technical updates.
Xiaomi, sales drop from one month to the next
To respond to growing criticism after a series of accidents involving the SU7, Xiaomi announced the establishment of an advisory committee to evaluate the safety of its vehicles. The Chinese tech company has planned periodic meetings with owners, media, and experts to gather suggestions: the first session is scheduled for the first half of this year, said Hou Jinglei, head of the electric vehicle safety department, during a live broadcast from the Beijing plant.
Accidents and safety
Xiaomi has a safety team of over 3.500 people and an internal investigation center for accident review, hoping to rebuild trust and transparency in safety practices. The cited accidents include a fatal case in October, in which an SU7 was involved in an accident: according to a report cited by media outlets Caixin and Yicai, the doors reportedly became unusable due to a power outage, causing the driver’s death from burns. Another accident under investigation saw three people die while the SU7 was in assisted driving mode. In response, Xiaomi released a software update in September for over 115.000 SU7s, stopped production of the first generation, and plans to launch an updated version in April with a backup power system for the doors.
