A dramatic Sunday
Among the many dramatic moments that the MotoGP paddock experienced in Barcelona, there is certainly the need to highlight the terrible accident caused by Johann Zarco at the time of the second restart, of which the unfortunate Frenchman himself was also the main victim. In the pile-up that also involved Luca Marini and Francesco Bagnaia, the left leg of the French rider was trapped in the Ducati GP26 of the Piedmontese rider. The images of the crash and the flight of the bike with Zarco ‘trapped’ inside are terrible and made people fear the worst. However, the team boss of LCR himself, Lucio Cecchinello, tried to provide some reassurance, as much as possible.

To the French TV Canal+, which was obviously very worried about the fellow countryman rider, Cecchinello gave a first picture of the situation, also revealing that he had spoken with Zarco: “We helped him take off his suit, which we obviously cut. And he was very calm, very professional. He explained to me a bit what happened at the start. Fortunately, he still maintains a positive attitude. We try to see the positive side in this difficult moment”. To the English TNT Sports Cecchinello also added: “They will do an X-ray and a CT scan to understand exactly what he has. He feels pain in the left leg, a bit around the knee. Fortunately, he has no concussions, nor injuries to the upper body, nor to the feet and ankles. It seems to be only around the femur. I really hope there is no bad news”.

The team then published an official statement in which it reported that “Johann Zarco has been transferred to the Hospital Universitari General de Catalunya, in Sant Cugat, for further examinations on the left leg”.
