The lost positions and the comeback
The start of the Miami Grand Prix was as spectacular as it was risky for several drivers, very close to a contact that could have ended their race already in the first lap. This did not happen, despite a spin by Max Verstappen who, just after turn 1, managed to regain control of his Red Bull. A 360° spin that cost the Dutchman several positions, who immediately started his comeback by raising his level of aggression.

The controversial overtake
The four-time world champion, on this mission, was criticized by Carlos Sainz, who after suffering a very decisive overtake from his former Toro Rosso teammate inside, felt that the latter believed he could do “anything”. Interviewed by the media after the race, the Spaniard from Williams returned to the issue: “I probably made one of the best starts of the year and had an incredible push at turn 1, but Max in front of me spun, so I had to slow down – he explained – the drivers were really fast, and I don’t know why; it seemed like they woke up wanting to crash. There were many drivers on track, but I managed to avoid trouble and, once the race settled, I recovered one by one and extended until finishing in ninth position. I’m happy; it was a solid race. No offense, but what Max did at turn 17 was almost a launch, knowing that, being in the middle of the pack, we couldn’t fight with him and that at some point we would have to let him pass. Probably there was some frustration for the spin and the attempt to get back to the front as soon as possible, but well, that’s racing. I don’t want to criticize him, it’s just that at that point I had the feeling we were about to crash, he pushed me off track and I lost three positions.”

The midfield
The response of Red Bull’s #3 to Sainz’s comment was very brief and concise, with Verstappen defining the battles that can occur in the midfield as follows: “I don’t know, it’s a jungle in the midfield, so I don’t know what to say”.
