Although there are still no guarantees about what will or will not be the final appointment of this season after the Rally of Sardinia, there is already one certainty in the WRC: thanks to the victory of Oliver Solberg and the placements in the top areas of the standings by other drivers, Toyota has won the Manufacturers’ Championship. A milestone that seemed almost a formality on the eve of the Rally of Chile, and that brought the Japanese manufacturer to 10 wins in its history, matching Lancia in the roll of honor. Nothing to do then for Hyundai, in a season that remains open for the Drivers’ title. Leading the group is still Elfyn Evans, who could have extended his lead over Sami Pajari by taking advantage of a lackluster rally by the Finn. Instead, the Welshman had to face bad luck precisely on the penultimate stage, with a puncture that allowed Pajari to overtake him in the standings. The gap between the two is now 17 points, but Evans must not underestimate the comeback of Solberg, winner in Chile: thanks to this success, in fact, the Swede is now 21 points behind the leader, all with two appointments remaining before the end of the world championship barring calendar changes.
