Ford has issued two separate recalls that collectively affect approximately 1,74 million vehicles due to defects related to the rearview camera display. The first recall concerns approximately 850.000 units of the Bronco and Edge models: according to the NHTSA, the US regulatory authority, a computer module could overheat and shut down, preventing the correct display of camera images when the vehicle is in reverse gear.

Ford double maxi recall
This malfunction represents a safety risk as drivers may not see obstacles or people behind the vehicle during reversing maneuvers. The second recall instead involves about 890.000 vehicles, including the Escape and Explorer models and the Lincoln Corsair and Aviator models. In these cases, the NHTSA itself has found that the image on the central display can flip or invert, producing an incorrect representation of the scene behind. In this case too, the problem can lead the driver to become confused, increasing the risk of accidents during reversing maneuvers, as the displayed image would not correspond to the actual position of the obstacles.

Rearview camera problems
The US automaker stated it is working to find a solution to both problems, but at the moment a definitive repair is not yet available for either recall. NHTSA data recalls that Ford has issued 17 recalls during the year, involving over 7,3 million vehicles. Hyundai Motor follows with five recalls for approximately 700.000 vehicles. In a related corporate context, Reuters reports, CEO Jim Farley told employees that improvements in vehicle quality have been observed in the first months of ownership, which contributed to higher corporate bonuses.
