Opel is completing the Green Campus

Going into more detail, the new grEEn-campus extends over an area of 114,000 square meters. It includes an administrative building of about 23,000 square meters, a research and development building with a Design Center of about 36,000 square meters, and a parking lot of about 55,000 square meters. The Opel and Stellantis Germany headquarters are located in the administrative building. The German company has announced that in the coming months state-of-the-art workspaces will be created, designed to support flexible work and teamwork. Exactly as will happen in the future in the research and development building and the Design Center, where among other things all Opel models will be designed and engineered.

An eye also on the environment

Attention is also paid to the environment. The campus’s electrical supply is provided by a photovoltaic system, integrated into a green roof. The energy aspect is complemented by a geothermal system. It is located under the future parking lot and is one of the largest of its kind in Germany. The system absorbs heat from the ground and stores it. In combination with high-efficiency heat pumps, the company explains, the stored energy is used for heating and cooling all year round, powered mainly by electricity generated by the on-site photovoltaic systems.
