XPENG accelerates the spread of humanoid robots

XPeng announced that its robotics division has signed share purchase agreements with multiple investors. The company has raised over 900 million US dollars with a post-money valuation exceeding 6.3 billion dollars. The operation represents the largest private capital raise in a single round ever made in the embodied AI sector in China. The fundraising was led by leading global investors headed by IDG Capital, with participation from Gaorong Ventures and support from Tencent and Alibaba as strategic investors.

Xpeng invests in humanoid robots

The size of the round and new industry records thus set new benchmarks for the entire sector, reflecting investors’ confidence in various factors. Which ones? XPeng’s leadership in Physical AI, the solidity of the technology roadmap, the ability to scale production, and the long-term commercial potential above all. Furthermore, these funds should help accelerate the construction of the company’s robotic ecosystem and expand the applications of the systems in the real world.

The new IRON

As a pillar of the Physical AI strategy, XPeng is focusing on the next-generation humanoid robot IRON. It has been designed to integrate a form and movement highly similar to humans with AI-driven intelligence, with particular attention to safety requirements. It is essentially born as a generic and advanced humanoid robotic platform. And it can support multiple applications and continuously improve through self-learning in real-world contexts, thanks to a fully in-house developed full-stack technology covering both hardware and software. On the technical side, IRON integrates 76 degrees of freedom across the entire body and 21 in each hand, as well as a native AI hardware platform and three Turing AI chips with computing power up to 2,250 TOPS, enabled to autonomously perform complex tasks without remote control, with low-latency inference.

Research and development in the spotlight

The funds obtained will be mainly allocated to hardware and software R&D activities, iteration and training of Physical AI models, generation of high-quality data, development of end-to-end production plants, and global commercial expansion. Serial production, XPeng itself announced, is expected by the end of 2026, with a first commercial use at stores and campuses before the official launch and the start of deliveries in China and foreign markets in 2027. Throughout this, XPeng will maintain the majority stake in the robotics division, which will continue to be consolidated in the Group’s financial statements.
