Zarco: “I gave my best, our pace was better than I expected”

Zarco and the rain

High-level weekend for Johann Zarco in the Spanish Grand Prix, from an excellent qualifying performance to the race, during which he maintained an excellent pace only to then succumb to tire wear. Starting from second position on the grid, in a fight for pole position where he highlighted all his qualities on the wet track, the Frenchman was the protagonist of a good start, allowing him to remain in the podium zone.

The race

As the laps went by, however, Zarco lost ground to the Ducatis of Alex Marquez and Fabio Di Giannantonio, as well as all the Aprilias on track, crossing the finish line in seventh position. Still a positive result for the Frenchman, never so high up at the start of this season: I gave my best to achieve the best possible result, and today I got 7th place – he commented after the race – the start was tough, but I managed to defend my position and fight with my opponents. Our pace was better than I expected, honestly, it was very good, and I’m happy about it. Obviously I was aiming for the podium, but five laps from the end I felt a strong drop in pressure in the rear tire. In the end I crossed the finish line in 7th position, which is still a positive result. Tomorrow’s tests will help us improve in some areas and be more prepared for the next races.”
