Returning to Europe
At the end of the month, the MotoGP World Championship will arrive at the Jerez de la Frontera circuit for the first seasonal race scheduled in Europe, a continent that will host other events until early October. This long period will also include the German Grand Prix, which will take place from 10 to 12 July on the Sachsenring track. A track that, since the beginning of February, has been at the center of redevelopment work to make it safer according to FIM criteria, with the completion of the work regularly scheduled before the GP.

The incidents in Moto2
The need to get to work to improve safety conditions for the riders became necessary after the violent impact that occurred last year in Moto2 between Marcos Ramirez and Albert Arenas, with the latter being hit full-on by his Spanish compatriot. The collision had no consequences for either rider, as was the case with the one involving Diogo Moreira and David Alonso. Also in Moto2, the Brazilian went off track due to a mistake, but in an attempt to rejoin he was hit by his opponent.

The interventions
“Fortunately, it’s only a few things – explained Lutz Oeser, Managing Director of Sachsenring Event, to Speedweek regarding the ongoing work – improvements are necessary, for example, in some points where the grass verge must be replaced with asphalt. When riders go off track, in fact, they skid on the edge of the track. Therefore, a safer corridor is being created so that riders can rejoin the track in a controlled manner”. In addition to the Omega sector, where the impact between Moreira and Alonso occurred, other interventions at the Sachsenkurve are also nearing completion, as is the expansion of the track access points for marshals. All this at a cost of approximately 300.000 euros, with the Sachsenring hosting the German GP until 2031.
