“I just want the same car“. George Russell vented like this after retiring on the first lap of the Belgian GP in Spa. The Mercedes driver found himself without battery on the Kemmel straight and tried to defend his position from Hamilton’s attack on the outside, ending up in the gravel.

The Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff, presenting the Hungarian weekend, reiterated that the Brackley team is working diligently to prevent a recurrence of the problems encountered, particularly by George Russell.

“So far we have shown in every race that we have sufficient speed – Wolff said – however, we have not been able to convert that potential into results. We have lost points due to self-inflicted problems and we know we need to improve. The team is working hard to understand the critical issues, resolve them and ensure that both drivers have the necessary tools to make the most of every weekend”.

“The Hungarian GP represents a different challenge compared to the circuits we have raced on recently – Wolff added – Silverstone and Spa are tracks characterized by more critical energy management. Budapest, however, is a different track in this respect, which changes the demands on the car and the approach to the weekend. As always, the competition is fierce and small details will make the difference. Our goal is clear: to have a clean and smooth weekend, earning the points within the car’s reach before the summer break”.
