Big celebration at Mercedes
Toto Wolff’s bet proved to be a winner: Andrea Kimi Antonelli won the first GP of his F1 career. The Mercedes driver managed the race in China perfectly with only one smudge at the end when he locked up at the end of the long straight.

The lead over George Russell was such that the mistake was not decisive for Antonelli, who was thus able to cry with joy, ending a 20-year drought of Italian victories in F1.
Toto Wolff commented on Antonelli’s victory to Sky Sport: “I am happy, for him, for his family and for everyone who has been part of this journey. He was good because in the end he also made Russell understand that he still had some margin and this nipped George’s final comeback attempt in the bud. The club of F1 winners with Mercedes grows: Fangio, Moss, Rosberg, Hamilton, Bottas, Russell and Antonelli.”
