First podium with Ferrari for Hamilton
A year ago Lewis Hamilton in China had a weekend of highs and lows with the sprint pole and the victory in the Sprint overshadowed by the disqualification at the end of the GP for excessive wear of the plank.
In this one in Shanghai, a victory did not arrive for Hamilton, but the first podium as a Ferrari driver is nonetheless remarkable for the seven-time world champion who has definitively found his smile again after having already started 2026 in Australia with a different attitude.
Hamilton came out on top at the end of a truly exciting battle with teammate Charles Leclerc and at the start of the GP he even led the pack following the now-established excellent start of the SF-26.

“With Leclerc it was a great battle – Hamilton told Sky – but I want to congratulate Kimi Antonelli who did an exceptional job. For me, as a veteran, it is a privilege to be on the podium with him. He is in a fantastic team and it is beautiful to see his first victory so closely and live. We battled on track, but that is the nature of racing. I thank everyone at Ferrari so much for the work done at the factory that allowed us to fight for these positions.”
