Formula 1, is the V8 the future?
In recent weeks, voices in favor of FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem’s plan to bring V8 engines back to F1 starting from 2030 and 2031 have multiplied.
And there could be surprises if the project goes through, with new engine manufacturers potentially knocking on Formula 1’s doors, increasingly attractive due to the economic and audience successes achieved in recent years.

Are McLaren engines coming?
The prospect of a McLaren V8 power unit was evoked by Ben Sulayem himself in Miami: “I believe that when we introduce it, McLaren will use their own engine. They won’t turn to others, now they do because of the complexity of the project.”
Voices confirmed by Zak Brown, CEO of McLaren Racing, as reported by Sports Business Journal: “If we were presented with a financially sustainable formula, then we would consider it, along with the technology. That said, we are happy with Mercedes, but we will evaluate a proposal that makes financial sense.”
