First GP without a podium for Ferrari
For the first time in 2026, Ferrari finished a race weekend without reaching the podium in the GP. The updates to the SF-26 worked, but in Miami the gap in engine performance with the Mercedes-powered cars and also with Max Verstappen’s Red Bull was an almost insurmountable obstacle for Charles Leclerc in defending a podium that slipped away right at the end.

The Monegasque was third, but he was overtaken by Oscar Piastri who took third position on the penultimate lap. Leclerc then spun at Turn 3 on the last lap damaging the car and triggering a domino effect that dropped him to sixth position (and potential penalties could push him even further down.

Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur commented on the race to Sky: “We were leading the race and in control, then the Safety Car came out – said Vasseur – at that point the rivals were able to use the power unit’s overtake mode and we struggled. We suffered a bit too much from tire overheating, especially on the rear axle. We need to fix this because even yesterday in the Sprint we had a very good first part of the stint but then dropped off at the end. With a clear track the pace was good and we could keep the rivals at bay, but when we are in a battle, we suffer from the rivals’ overtake mode.”
