Test Mugello 850cc Day1, the scoop: Honda on top, Ducati and Aprilia chasing

The MotoGP Mugello Test

On Wednesday, August 5, MotoGP kicked off the two-day test of 850cc bikes on the Italian Mugello circuit. These are tests involving the test riders, as the MotoGP circus has moved to Silverstone for the British Grand Prix. The English round, scheduled for this weekend, will mark the return from the summer break.

Four of the five manufacturers competing in the championship are participating, namely Aprilia, Ducati, KTM, and Honda. The only absentee is Yamaha. Since this is still a preliminary phase of the prototypes, the results obviously need to be taken with caution.

The rumors about the results

The end-of-day ranking was reported by GpOne and Sky Sport, agreeing that the fastest of the session was Takaaki Nakagami on the Honda.
The test rider of the Golden Wing manufacturer stopped the clocks at 1’47.2. To give a rough comparison with the 2026 MotoGP, Marco Bezzecchi’s pole in Tuscany was 1’43.921 at the end of May.

Behind the Honda was the Ducati, brought to the track by Nicolò Bulega – who will be a full-time rider in VR46 next year and is therefore gaining experience on the 2027 bikes. The Italian was not too far from the leader, having closed his best lap in 1’47.3 (with both best times set in the morning).

Third position went to Lorenzo Savadori with Aprilia, 1’48.0 in the afternoon, followed by the two KTMs with test riders Pol Espargaró and Dani Pedrosa (1’48.5 and 1’48.7).
Finally, the case of Pol Espargaró is curious, as from today he is in Silverstone to race in place of Maverick Viñales in KTM Tech3.
