The holiday in Thailand of former Formula 1 driver Mika Salo turned into a nightmare, hospitalized after being stabbed in Bangkok. According to the 59-year-old told to the Finnish newspaper IS, the attack was carried out completely randomly by a motorcyclist while he was crossing the street at the pedestrian crossing: “I felt a small hit – he said – but I didn’t realize anything until a passerby pointed out that I was bleeding from my leg. I looked down and saw that my shoe was completely covered in blood.”

Transported to the hospital, Salo reported that the doctor examined the wound, considering it to be caused by a stab. A random attack then, with the medical staff telling the former Ferrari driver (called to Maranello to replace Michael Schumacher in 1999) that there had been other hospitalizations for similar wounds that same evening: “It’s a shame – he added – you can’t swim or practically do anything. You spend a lot of time in the hotel room. The wound is kept dry in a room with air conditioning. The doctor told me not to walk long distances, but I can easily walk a kilometer or two. I have no pain and have not taken painkillers. I’m only taking antibiotics. In a big city, there’s always room for idiots. Fortunately, this hit me in the leg and not elsewhere. They were just trying to hurt me, if they did it intentionally. If they wanted to do more damage, obviously they would have tried to hit the upper body. In that case, maybe I wouldn’t have said anything.”

Questioned by the police, to whom he reiterated that he was attacked randomly and without any theft, Salo wanted to thank the authorities: “I have to compliment the Thai police. They obtained security camera footage and other material in a very short time. Here, a tourist’s injury is a big problem: “
