Ferrari: Hamilton and Leclerc, diametrically opposed
In the Canadian Grand Prix Lewis Hamilton achieved the best result of his experience with Ferrari, finishing second behind the winner Andrea Kimi Antonelli in a Mercedes. The English champion did not hide his satisfaction for the entire Montreal weekend and for the work done with the engineers.
On the other side of the garage, however, completely different feelings for Charles Leclerc, fourth at the finish but a bit lost, as in interviews he did not hesitate to call the Quebec event “the worst weekend of his career”.
Smedley and Leclerc’s thoughts
During the High Performance podcast, Rob Smedley – English engineer at Ferrari from 2004 to 2013 – highlighted the difficulties experienced by Charles Leclerc: “Hamilton has always done special things in Montreal and was faster than Charles. And he got into Charles’s head, because suddenly he started saying he was having the worst weekend of his career in Formula 1”.
For Smedley, the reason for this thought of Leclerc is only the result: “If Lewis had been three places behind him, he wouldn’t have had that kind of reasoning and Charles wouldn’t have talked about the last weekend as the worst of his career”.
But Sunday is already time for the Monaco GP, Leclerc’s home race: Frederic Vasseur has already assured: “Charles in Monte Carlo won’t even remember what happened in Montreal”.
