Quartararo: “We have improved, I am happy. Even in terms of pace, we were not bad”

Quartararo, splendid top-5 in the Sprint

A lion’s Saturday for Fabio Quartararo, who this morning emerged from Q1 (yielding only to the track record set by Marc Marquez) and found a great second row. The 2021 world champion was not satisfied and was close to the leaders for half of the Sprint, before being overtaken by Pedro Acosta. For the Diablo, a fifth place arrived anyway, giving him good hopes for tomorrow’s race.

Quartararo’s words

I am very happy, because we had a good improvement from Friday to Saturday. I was really fast this morning, then I knew we would suffer a bit more in terms of pace, but from this point of view I have to say ours was fast. I am happy with how it went, let’s see how it goes tomorrow“, this was his comment. “I was very strong out of turn 8 and turn 14. We know that in top speed we are not competitive, but we try to focus on the points where we are stronger“.

Regarding the weather conditions for the GP, which are expected to be rainy, Quartararo did not commit: “I don’t know what to expect, let’s see. We don’t know if it will be rainy or flag-to-flag, but we don’t control this and it doesn’t change anything for us, I will push at maximum anyway“.

Rins’ words

Not as memorable was Alex Rins’s Saturday, 13th: “Overall, it was quite a negative day for me. I struggled a lot in qualifying with the rear tire. For me, racing with the soft tire in the Sprint was the right choice, but the difficult part was the start. When I released the clutch, the engagement was abrupt and this caused a wheelie. Then the laps dropped and I slipped to last position. Later I managed to fight a bit with Jack and Toprak. Tomorrow we will have a new opportunity. It seems we will face really adverse weather conditions, let’s see what we can do“.
