Back in the points zone
For the second consecutive time, Yamaha finished in the points zone with both of its riders at the German GP. After the Assen weekend, the Japanese manufacturer returned to the top 15 with Fabio Quartararo and Alex Rins, respectively in seventh and fourteenth position after 30 laps completed on a very difficult track like Sachsenring for tire consumption management.

The risks at the start
6th on the starting grid, ‘El Diablo’ Quartararo lost three positions at the start, only to climb back to seventh place following the crashes of Alex Marquez and Di Giannantonio. From that moment, the Frenchman maintained his position until the checkered flag, without being intimidated by Marini’s threat behind him: “I had some difficult moments in the first lap – he commented – I almost crashed at turn 3, then I had a contact with Martín at turn 5, and he entered turn 8 a bit too optimistically – but I’m not complaining, it’s part of racing. However, we exited turn 7 badly and three opponents overtook me there, and then I stayed more or less in the same position for the whole race. Seventh place is a good result.”

Also Rins, like his teammate, took advantage of others’ mistakes and crashes to climb to 14th place from 18th position held during the first lap. However, for the Spaniard there is also a reconsideration: “In hindsight, I have some thoughts about this race. If we could start over, I would try to push more in the middle part of the race to stay with Morbidelli, because I was managing the tires a lot and thinking about the end of the race. But in the end, my tires were all worn out, so at least I would have been able to keep up with him.”
