Max is unhappy
These days Formula 1 is thoroughly analyzing what can be improved in the new regulations and the drivers are also participating in the discussions. Among the most active – both in front of the cameras and behind the scenes – is Max Verstappen, who would like to return to a Formula 1 that allows drivers to go flat out, without depending too much on energy management.
Verstappen had threatened to retire, but having made him one of the main interlocutors for the drivers in discussions with Formula 1 and the FIA is a sign that it is in everyone’s interest to keep him on the starting grid.
Nelsinho Piquet: “Verstappen is not in F1 for the money”
During an interview with the Spanish colleagues of SoyMotor, Nelson Piquet Jr. was asked what Verstappen might do. And the Brazilian is no ordinary person, since he is ‘family’ being the brother of Kelly – the partner of the Dutch champion: “Max is a very genuine person and says what he thinks. He is not there for the money, but for the sport and the challenge and because he likes it. If he no longer felt comfortable, he would probably do something else.”
Nelsinho Piquet continued: “He knows what he wants and does what he feels. If F1 does not make him happy, he will say: ‘Ok, I will do something that makes me happy’. Whether it’s racing in GT, rallying, karting or something else. I know many drivers who are in Formula 1 for the money, because they have to pay the bills. But that’s not his case. He’s not chasing money. If things don’t change, there is a possibility that he will say he wants to do something else and when things become enjoyable again, that he will return. Knowing him, I can say that if he doesn’t feel the passion for the sport, there is a good chance he will do something else.”
