A communication error with the pit wall or a moment of distraction after a less-than-exhilarating lap. It’s not clear what led to the misjudgment of Piastri’s track position, but it seems very difficult for Lewis Hamilton to avoid at least a three-place grid penalty for impeding the McLaren in Q3.

Piastri, for his part, did not take it well – and who can blame him – the misunderstanding with Hamilton in Turn 1, and frankly analyzed what happened before his last flying lap: “What happened there? Simple, Lewis didn’t look in his mirrors”.
“It’s a shame, because this prevented me from doing my lap. The car was clearly very fast, also considering where Lando is. For my part, I tried to improve it: it wasn’t easy, but it’s clear that the performance is there”.

Piastri then admitted that the first session lost to hand over the wheel to Fornaroli penalized him a bit: “I feel like I’ve been playing catch-up all weekend, in a way. I feel like I would have needed another practice session to get on top of things, which unfortunately I didn’t get”.
