Brazilian Shame
He has something for everyone, Carlo Pernat. The historic MotoGP manager was reached by FormulaPassion.it exclusively for a comment on what happened a few days ago in Brazil, in what turned out to be a weekend of great embarrassment for MotoGP between track flooding, potholes in the asphalt that forced a delay of over an hour for the Sprint and, last but not least, the incredible decision to shorten the race by 25% of its length made literally five minutes before the start of the GP.

All this on a track, the one in Goiania, which during the various races of the weekend literally crumbled, with the bikes ‘shooting’ stones at the following riders as if they were extremely dangerous projectiles. A scenario that would be unacceptable for safety even in an amateur race and which instead occurred on the stage with the greatest visibility in the world in the two-wheeled panorama, that of MotoGP.
The riders don’t command respect
Pernat in his analysis pointed the finger at Liberty Media and against the event organizers, but also criticized the riders, guilty of not commanding respect even on fundamental issues such as safety: “If this is what it means to move forward, we’re in good shape… – Pernat commented to the microphone of FormulaPassion.it – you can’t go to circuits like these. But are we joking? It’s not conceivable that six minutes before the start a decision is made to remove eight laps from the race, without even the possibility of fixing the bike and possibly changing the tires. Even for safety, something like this cannot be done. To the riders then I say ‘wake up!’ – thundered the historic manager of so many Motomundial riders – now they are treated like puppets who must limit themselves to doing everything others want. This won’t work: they must take a representative of theirs and form an association of riders“.

No to street circuits
The most well-known example of this type of association is perhaps the GPDA of Formula 1, although even in the Circus of four wheels the demands of the riders are not always accepted, quite the opposite. “There’s nothing to be done, now is the time [for them to form a riders’ association] because now everything will change. Everyone has their own association, only they don’t have one. They must take someone and pay them to be there and look after their interests [of the riders]. Sunday they should not have raced – Pernat concluded – or rather, they should have imposed themselves and delayed the start by at least a quarter of an hour to allow the bike to be fixed, to change the fuel tank, and so on. And circuits before being homologated must be inspected at least two or three times. Even this idea of racing in Adelaide in 2027…bikes must not have street circuits. Safety must be the priority. We must be careful because these [Liberty Media] want (only) to do business“.
