Opel grows in its home market: SUV range performs well

Opel confirms itself as one of the major players in the German automotive market in the first quarter of 2026. After a transitional 2025 marked by numerous important model launches, the brand with the Blitz registered nearly 33.600 new registrations of passenger cars from January to March, marking a 39% increase compared to the same period last year. The passenger car market share in Germany rose by 1,2 percentage points reaching 4,8%.

Opel grows in the German market

Official data from the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) highlight further positive signs. For example, 13.700 Opels were registered in March, 43% more than in the same month of 2025, with the market share growing from 3,8% to 4,7%. It’s not just about aggregate numbers, but performance on key models: Corsa, the most popular small car in its home country for over five years, saw a further growth of 25%. Also the Mokka and Grandland SUVs recorded double-digit growth, while Frontera, launched in dealerships in May 2025, has already become a bestseller.

Electric range that works

On the electrification front, preliminary internal data show that Opel’s share of new BEV (battery electric vehicle) registrations in the German market in the first quarter reached nearly 21%, with a share increase of 1,5 percentage points compared to the same period last year, reaching 4,3%. As highlighted by Patrick Dinger, head of Opel Germany, the Mokka, Frontera, and Grandland SUV line remains fresh and highly appreciated, while the new Astra will enter dealerships to further support growth.
