Official, Bulega lands in MotoGP: he will race with VR46

Official Announcement

Announcement day for Nicolò Bulega: after officially announcing his departure from the Aruba Ducati team, with which he is about to become world champion in Superbike, the 26-year-old from Montecchio Emilia has been announced as the new rider for the VR46 team in MotoGP for the 2027 season. The news had been known for weeks, but now it has received the official stamp.

Bulega thus follows the path already experienced with some difficulties this year by Toprak Razgatlıoğlu, moving from a World Championship won in WSBK (now only the arithmetic is missing for Bulega) to the premier class of the MotoGP World Championship. In the Tavullia team, Bulega will form a very intriguing pair with Fermín Aldeguer: a duo with much to prove but also with considerable growth potential.

The duration of the agreement between Bulega and the team has not been disclosed, but the press release text only refers to the 2027 season; “starting from 2027”, to be precise. However, it is more than possible that the agreement is a 1+1 that provides for an automatic renewal for 2028 upon reaching certain objectives.

Words from Uccio and Bulega

“We are very happy to welcome Nicolò to the Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team – said VR46 Team Director Alessio Salucciwe have known Nicolò for many years, he started his career with us and we have achieved great results. Over the years, both he and the team have grown a lot and we find ourselves here to do great things together. We know he is a very talented rider since he was young and he has proven it, both in the past and present, dominating the WorldSBK championship. I see him ready to face this new adventure with great maturity and awareness. We are very proud to have him on our team and we will give him maximum human and technical support, together with Ducati, to enable him to achieve all the goals together.”

“Reaching MotoGP is a dream – commented Bulega – also because I will debut with the Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team. I chose this team because I have always been connected to them: when I was young I was in the VR46 Riders Academy, I know everyone well. So, making this step with people I know is easier on a human level. Also, they are all extremely professional. When I started racing I had the idea of reaching here. Then, for a series of reasons, my career took a slightly different path: I arrived at WorldSBK, where I focused on making a good career. But these years have gone far beyond my expectations, so we thought of making the jump to the premier class. I am happy to reach this goal, even if it took me a little longer and I took a slightly different path than usual. It is definitely very nice and I am proud. Now I don’t want to set goals, I want to try to do well, I want to think race by race, especially at the beginning, and try to do the best possible. I want to thank the entire VR46 Racing Team, Ducati Corse and Aruba for making this possible”.
